Why I Love My IUD

02.25.2019 | Juno4Me

I don’t get my period anymore.  I used to get horrible cramps and bloating. After the first few months of spotting my period got super light and then stopped completely. I don’t have to plan my life around my cycle anymore and I put the money I save on tampons and Advil into my travel fund!

I don’t have to think about it every day. I have the memory of a goldfish. If someone tells me something I’ll forget it within five minutes. With my IUD I don’t have to worry about remembering to take a pill every day or get a shot every few months. That also means I don’t need to remember to make doctor’s appointments or refill any prescriptions (or take the time out of my day to go to the doctor’s office or drug store).

It’s idiot-proof.Pills get lost, condoms fall off, people don’t pull out. There is no way I can mess up my IUD—and I mess up a ton. While other aspects of my life might be a garbage fire my IUD will always be there for me 100% (actually 99% but I rounded up).

I don’t worry about large doses of hormones. My hormones drive me crazy. When the term PMS was invented I’m pretty sure they were talking about me (re: mood swings and constant demands for chocolate). I didn’t want to test how large doses hormones (found in other methods such as the implant or the pill) would affect me. My IUD is hormonal but the itty-bitty amounts of hormones don’t affect me badly at all.

I won’t get pregnant!I WON’T GET PREGNANT! I have so much I want to do with my life before I even think about having kids. I LOVE not being pregnant!

I think other forms of birth control can be great and very effective! But everyone needs to find birth control that works for them and my IUD works for me. I still use condoms because they help protect me from STIs, and I recommend everyone who uses hormonal birth control or LARCs also use a barrier method to protect themselves as well. I can honestly say I LOVE my IUD.

oh, and don’t forget to always wear a condom, as this is the best way to protect against STIs.
